We hear ...


... that Upstate Films in Rhinebeck will host late-night screenings of cult/classic films on Friday and Saturday nights in September.

The screenings are part of the independent moviehouse's effort to draw in younger audiences, particularly college students.

Hoorah! Good idea, because every time I go there, I feel like the youngest person there. Not that I have anything against graying ex-hippies and their green Subaru Foresters....but it's about time they try and bring some young blood in.

Yes, it is mostly a baby boomer audience. But I have occasionally noticed younger audiences. A screening of "Pan's Labyrinth," for example, skewed heavily in the generations X and Y direction.
